April 22-24, 2011 Flooding & Tornado

On April 21, 2011, Harrison County and many other counties in the Commonwealth were placed under a Flood Watch for Friday through Saturday in anticipation of a large amount of rain from a stalled warm front. On the following evening numerous other advisories and statements were issued by the National Weather Service in relation to this frontal system, including tornado watches and warnings and flash flood warnings.
In reaction to these events, CodeRED announcements were made for the tornado warning on Friday night, and Flood Warnings on Saturday. Plans for a shelter were made, and once again, notification sent to citizens via the CodeRED system and a door-to-door campaign conducted by Harrison Co. Search and Rescue.
The South Fork of the Licking River in Cynthiana came to a height of 19.48 feet at 0215 Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service confirmed on April 25 that the damage received in the Connersville area on Saturday, April 23, was caused by an EF-0 Tornado with wind speeds of 85mph.
